Store Editor - Feature Guide
The Store Editor is where you build the pages of your store out of sections. You add, remove, reorder and configure them, see the result in a live preview beside the settings, and publish when you are happy.
Go to Design > Editor in your store dashboard.
Your edits are a draft until you press Publish. The preview shows them and your visitors do not, so your storefront keeps showing the old version. If an image you uploaded or a section you added is missing from your store, check here for an unpublished draft.
The layout
The screen splits in two. On the left is the page you are editing: its list of sections, and the settings for whichever one you have opened. On the right is your store, exactly as the page will look.
Click a section in the preview to open its settings. Use the phone and desktop buttons above the preview to check both.
Which pages you can edit
The page selector at the top left lists your homepage, any custom pages you have created, and any other page that has been built out of sections. Switching pages keeps your unsaved work, so you can move between them freely.
Working with sections
- Add: pick a section type from the add menu. It lands at the bottom of the page, and you move it from there.
- Reorder: use the up and down buttons on each section.
- Duplicate: copies a section and its settings. Useful when you want two content blocks with the same styling.
- Hide: switches a section off without deleting it. Your settings are kept for when you switch it back on.
- Remove: deletes the section from the page.
The same section type can appear more than once. Three content sections on one page is fine.
In the featured products, featured categories and featured articles sections, search by name in the Custom field to pick what the section shows. Your picks show in the order you pick them, and Quantity sets how many appear.
The featured products, featured categories, featured articles and products sections also have Shuffle on each visit. Switch it on to show a random selection each time the page loads. If you picked items in the Custom field, the shuffle only uses your picks.
Section types
Hero, heading, content, content band, highlight boxes, featured products, featured categories, featured articles, products, pick cards, offer box, testimonials, FAQ, newsletter signup, category links and custom HTML.
Hover over a section type in the add menu to see what it does.
Custom HTML
A Custom HTML section prints your own HTML, scripts or embed code on the page exactly as written. Use it for a video, a form, a widget or anything else that comes as a code snippet. It works on your homepage and on pages you create.
- HTML: your code. Scripts, iframes and embed codes work.
- CSS for this section: optional. Rules such as
h2 { color: red; }apply inside this section only. This needs a browser from 2023 or later. - Keep to page width?: on by default, so the section lines up with the rest of the page. Switch it off to remove the page-width limit.
Your code is not checked. A faulty script can spoil the page, so check it in the preview before you press Publish.
Offer box dates
The offer box has two optional dates: Show from (optional) and Show until (optional). Use them for a sale or a seasonal offer. The box shows from the first day and hides itself after the last day. Leave a date empty for no limit on that side.
Dates follow each visitor's own calendar. Press Publish after you set them.
Store style
Above the section list sits Store style, a short form for the things that apply to the whole store rather than to one section: your colour scheme, your five custom colour roles, a font pairing, and the two footer boxes (the newsletter form and the linked box) that are part of the footer rather than sections you can switch off in the list.
Your colours are swatches here, not code. Under Colour scheme sit five of them: Accent, Background, Text, Titles and Buttons. Click a swatch, pick your colour and press Publish. FreshStore works out the rest of the store from those five, such as link, hover and border colours, so a button or title colour needs no CSS.
Like everything else in the Editor, these wait for Publish. For the full set of colour and font controls, use Design > Colour Scheme and Design > Typography.
Images and text
Image fields take a file straight from your computer. FreshStore generates the sizes your store needs for phones and desktops as soon as the upload finishes.
The hero and offer box image fields show the best size underneath: 2400 x 1200 pixels for the hero, and 1920 pixels wide or more for the offer box background. Both are shown cropped to fill their space.
Text fields with formatting give you the same editor as the rest of your dashboard, so bold, links and lists work as you expect.
Choosing links
Link fields have a Choose button. It opens a search across your own store: pages, categories, brands, articles and products. Pick one and the link is set.
Pages, categories and brands are listed straight away. Articles and products need a search term, because a store can hold thousands of them.
A link chosen this way follows its target. If you rename the category later, the link still works. To send visitors somewhere else entirely, paste a web address into the box below the chooser.
Drafts and publishing
Nothing you change in the Editor reaches your visitors until you press Publish. Your edits are held as a draft you can see in the preview and nobody else can.
- Publish applies your draft and clears your store's cache once, so visitors see the new version.
- Discard throws the draft away and leaves your published store untouched. It clears unpublished changes on every page at once, not just the page you are looking at.
The draft survives you closing the browser, so you can build a page over several sittings.
While you have a draft open, switching Theme is blocked, and so is Reset Design. Publish or discard first.
The Editor and the Design pages
Changes you make on the ordinary Design pages, such as Colour Scheme or Store Options, save straight to your live store and show through in the Editor preview as well. Anything you change inside the Editor, sections and Store style alike, waits for Publish.
If a page is built in the Editor, the Editor sets its images, text and links. Its edit screen in Store > Pages keeps the Titles and SEO tabs, and shows an Open the Editor button that brings you back here.
