Colour Schemes - Feature Guide

Colour Schemes give your store a cohesive look in seconds. Pick from a curated palette and FreshStore applies it to your title text, links, and buttons across every page of your storefront.

How it works

A colour scheme is a curated combination of three colours that controls the most visible parts of your store theme:

  • Title colour: the main heading colour used on category names, product titles, and page headings.
  • Links colour: the colour of text links, plus the hover state.
  • Buttons colour: the background colour of primary buttons (Add to Cart, View Product, etc.).

FreshStore ships 18 ready-made schemes: Indigo Go, Blue Dream, Lush Green, Blood Orange, Pastel Pink, Bookworm, Toy Box, Healthy Leaves, Summer Shower, Luscious Lemonade, Water Foam, Bright Lights, Pasture of Dreams, Forever Fields, Purple Haze, Coral Sunset, Minty Fresh, and Earthy Clay.

You can change the scheme as often as you like. Save, view your store, and try another if it does not feel right.

Where to find it

In your store admin, go to Design > Colour Scheme. You will see every scheme laid out with a name, a short description, and the three colour swatches.

Choosing a scheme by niche

The best scheme is usually the one that matches the mood of your niche. A few starting points:

  • Coffee, books, vintage: Bookworm (warm browns and a touch of gold).
  • Golf, garden, outdoors: Lush Green, Healthy Leaves, or Pasture of Dreams.
  • Health, wellness, eco: Healthy Leaves, Minty Fresh, or Water Foam.
  • Tech, finance, B2B: Indigo Go, Blue Dream, or Bright Lights.
  • Food, cooking, BBQ: Blood Orange, Coral Sunset, or Forever Fields.
  • Beauty, fashion, kids: Pastel Pink, Toy Box, or Pasture of Dreams.
  • Luxury, premium, bold: Purple Haze or Earthy Clay.
  • Summer, beach, travel: Summer Shower, Luscious Lemonade, or Water Foam.

Tip: pick the scheme that feels closest to your niche, save it, and view your store. You can always come back and try another.

Settings and options

Each scheme is a single choice that updates three things at once:

  1. Title: headings on product, category, and content pages.
  2. Links (and hover): in-content links and menu items.
  3. Buttons: the background colour of primary action buttons.

Click the scheme you want, then click Save Colour Scheme. Your storefront updates straight away.

Your own colours

Every store has a Use custom colours switch on the same page, underneath the ready-made schemes. Turn it on and you set the palette yourself, instead of picking a ready-made one. The five pickers and the AI button appear once the switch is on, so if you cannot see them, scroll down to the Custom Colours box and switch it on first.

You choose five colours, and FreshStore works out the rest of the store from them:

  • Accent: the colour that carries your brand through the store.
  • Background: the canvas your pages sit on.
  • Text: body copy.
  • Titles: headings.
  • Buttons: primary action buttons.

From those five, FreshStore derives the thirteen shades your storefront needs: hover states, borders, muted text and so on. It also checks the combinations for contrast, and nudges a colour when text would be too faint to read against its background. That check is what stops a custom palette turning your store into something visitors squint at.

If you want to see the derived shades, or override one, open the advanced section below the five pickers.

Generating a palette

The Generate with AI button designs a palette for your niche and fills in the five colours. It uses a few hundred to a few thousand AI Chips, and nothing reaches your store until you save.

Treat it as a starting point. Generate, adjust the colours you disagree with, then save.

Colours and Themes

Switching Theme replaces your colours with the ones that suit the new Theme, custom palettes included. Reverting the Theme within 30 days brings your palette back.

Tips

  • Match your logo to the scheme. If you need to refresh your logo, see How to change your store logo or try the AI Logo Designer.
  • Open your storefront in a new tab while you test schemes so you can flip back and forth.
  • Check both the home page and a product page. Buttons and links show up differently across page types.
  • Want colours that are not in the list? Switch on custom colours above. For anything the palette does not cover, add your own CSS at Design > Custom CSS. See Can I add custom CSS to my store?

Troubleshooting

  • I do not see my new colours on the storefront. Hard refresh the page (Cmd+Shift+R on Mac, Ctrl+F5 on Windows) to bypass the browser cache.
  • The admin still looks the same. That is expected. Colour schemes only style the public storefront, not your admin area.
  • None of the schemes match my brand. Switch on custom colours and set your own.
  • How do I change my store background colour? Go to Design > Colour Scheme, switch on Use custom colours, and set the Background colour. Then click Save Colour Scheme. You can also set it from the Background swatch under Store style in Design > Editor. Pick a light colour unless your text colour is light too.
  • My colours changed on their own. Check whether you switched Theme. A Theme sets the palette, so a switch replaces your colours. Revert the Theme to get them back.
  • I want to change just the logo or images, not colours. See How to change your store logo.
