Themes - Feature Guide

A Theme sets the whole look of your store: which sections appear on your homepage, in what order, plus the colours and fonts that go with them. Switching Theme keeps all your content. Your products, articles, categories and text stay exactly where they are.

Go to Design > Themes in your store dashboard.

The themes

  • Crystal: the standard FreshStore look. Balanced homepage, product grid, clear buying paths.
  • Magazine: content first. Your articles lead the homepage, with serif headlines setting the tone.
  • Outlet: deal led. Dense product grids and a prominent offer box, for discount and bargain niches.
  • Boutique: imagery led and sparse. A full height hero and fewer sections, for premium and lifestyle niches.
  • Directory: gift guide style. Badged pick cards front and centre, for "best of" and comparison stores.
  • Midnight: a dark look with neon accents, built for tech, gaming and streetwear stores.

Switching

Click a Theme card and confirm. The switch is immediate, and your storefront updates within a few minutes once the cache clears.

What changes and what stays

Your content stays. Products, categories, articles, your own text, your images, your links and your featured picks all survive the switch.

Your style is replaced. The new Theme sets the colour scheme, the custom colour palette and the three fonts, so a store you had already coloured and set fonts on comes out looking like the new Theme rather than like your old one. This is deliberate: it is the only way a Theme preview matches what you get.

Your section arrangement is replaced too, but your section content moves across. FreshStore matches your existing sections to the new arrangement by type and order, so your first hero becomes the new hero and your second content block becomes the new second content block. Where a Theme has a slot you never filled, it fills it with example content. Where your store has a section type the new Theme does not use, that section stops showing, and reverting brings it back.

If you have unsaved changes in the Store Editor, the switch is blocked until you publish or discard them. This stops a half finished edit from being applied on top of a new Theme.

Changing your mind

FreshStore saves a snapshot of your design before it switches. For 30 days after a switch, a Revert button appears at the top of the Themes page and puts your previous design back: the arrangement, your colours and your fonts as they were.

Content you edited after the switch is kept wherever its place in the old design still exists.

After 30 days the snapshot is deleted and the Revert button disappears. Switching Theme again replaces the snapshot with a new one, so you can always go back one step, not several.

Themes and Templates

Two words that sound alike and mean different things:

  • A Template is the engine your storefront runs on. FreshStore has one, Crystal, shown read only at Design > Templates.
  • A Theme is a look running on that engine. That is what you pick.

After switching

The Theme is a starting point, not the finish. Once you have picked one:

  • Open Design > Editor to add, remove and reorder the sections on your homepage.
  • Use Design > Colour Scheme to change the palette, or set your own colours.
  • Use Design > Typography to change the fonts.
