How to Transfer Your Domain to Another Registrar

If you registered a domain through FreshStore, you can move it to another registrar at any time. Ask us for its transfer code from your account, and we send it to you, usually within one working day. Your store keeps working during the move.

Before You Start

  • Check the price at your new registrar. They charge a transfer fee. For most domains this adds one year to the registration. Check their renewal price too, as some extensions cost a lot more to renew than to register.
  • New domains have to wait 60 days. An industry rule stops a domain moving registrar in the first 60 days after it is registered. Your domain page shows the date you can ask from.
  • The domain must be active. If the registration has run out, it cannot be transferred. Contact us if you want to recover it.
  • .uk domains work differently. They do not use a transfer code. You need your new registrar's IPS tag instead (see below).

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Ask for the transfer code

Go to Build > Domains and open the domain. On the Overview tab, open Transfer to another registrar and click Request transfer code.

Read the points in the window, tell us which registrar you are moving to, tick the box and click Request transfer code.

2. Wait for our email

We unlock the domain and email you its transfer code. It also appears in the same section of your domain page, with a copy button. This usually takes less than one working day.

Keep the code private. Anyone who has it can start a transfer of your domain.

3. Start the transfer at your new registrar

Log in to your new registrar and start a domain transfer. It is usually under Transfer or Transfer a domain. When it asks for the authorization code (also called the auth code or EPP code), paste the code we sent you.

Pay the transfer fee. If your new registrar asks about nameservers, keep ns1.freshstore.app and ns2.freshstore.app so your store stays online.

4. Approve the transfer

Your new registrar may email you to confirm the transfer. Approve it if they do.

5. Wait for it to finish

Most transfers finish within 5 to 7 days. We see when the domain arrives at your new registrar and update your domain page.

6. Stop auto-renew with us

Once the domain has moved, it renews at your new registrar, not with us. Stop its auto-renew with us so you are not billed for a renewal. On the domain page, open Registration & renewal and click Stop auto-renew. You can do this as soon as you ask for the code.

Transferring a .uk Domain

.uk domains (such as .co.uk) do not use a transfer code. Instead, we move the domain to your new registrar's IPS tag.

  1. Ask your new registrar for their IPS tag. It is usually on their transfer page or in their help pages.
  2. Follow step 1 above. The request window asks for the IPS tag. Enter it there.
  3. We change the tag and email you. Your new registrar then completes the transfer. Some show the domain straight away, and some ask you to accept it in their dashboard first.

Questions and Troubleshooting

Will my store go offline during the transfer?

No, as long as the nameservers stay as ns1.freshstore.app and ns2.freshstore.app. A transfer moves only the registration. Your website stays where it is. Do not change the nameservers at your new registrar unless you want to move your store away too.

My new registrar says the code is wrong.

Copy the code again from your domain page, including any symbols, and paste it without spaces. If it still fails, reply to the email we sent you and we will check it.

My new registrar says the domain is locked.

Reply to the email we sent you. We will unlock it again.

I do not see the Transfer to another registrar section.

The section only shows for domains registered through FreshStore. If you registered the domain somewhere else, ask that company for its transfer code.

The page says I have to wait 60 days.

This is an industry rule for every new domain. The page shows the date you can ask from.

The page says the domain is no longer registered with us.

This shows when the domain's renewal with us was cancelled. The registration ended when the paid year ran out, so we no longer hold it and cannot send a code. Contact us if you are not sure who holds it now.

Can I cancel my request?

Yes. While we are preparing the code, click Cancel request in the same section. Once we have sent the code, you can leave it unused.

I asked by mistake and got a code I did not want.

Reply to the email with the code and we will lock the domain again.
