Product Sorting - Feature Guide
Visitors can sort the products on your category, brand and All Products pages. You choose the order each page opens in, for the whole store or for one category.
What your visitors see
A sort control sits above the product list. It offers these orders:
- Featured: your own order. On a category page, this is the order you arranged the products in. On All Products and brand pages it is newest first, so the option shows as Newest.
- Newest: the most recently added products first.
- Price: low to high and Price: high to low: by each product's cheapest in-stock offer, which is the price shown on the product card. Products with no price go last.
- Top rated: the highest review score first. Products with no reviews go last.
- Name: A to Z.
Each Theme shows the sort control in its own style, for example a dropdown or a row of links. The choices are the same in every Theme.
Search results and the Special Offers page have no sort control. Search results are ordered by relevance, and Special Offers by most viewed.
Set the default order for your store
1. Open the product settings
Go to Store > Settings > Products.
2. Choose the order
In the Listing Order section, choose a Default Product Order. Featured keeps every category in the order you arranged it.
3. Save
Save the settings. Your category, brand and All Products pages open in the new order.
Set a different order for one category
1. Edit the category
Go to Store > Products > Categories and edit the category.
2. Choose the order
In the Settings panel, choose a Product Order. Leave it empty to use your store default.
3. Save
Save the category. Its own order now wins over the store default.
Tips
- Keep Featured on categories where you have put your best products first by hand.
- Try Price: low to high on categories where shoppers compare prices, such as accessories and spare parts.
- Visitors can always pick another order, so the default only decides what they see first.
Questions and Troubleshooting
I changed the store default, but one category still shows the old order.
That category has its own Product Order. Edit the category and clear the field to use the store default.
How do I rearrange the Featured order?
Edit the category in Store > Products > Categories and drag the products into the order you want. See How are products ordered on my store?
How do I show my newest products first?
Your All Products page already shows the newest products first. To open your category and brand pages with the newest products first too, set the Default Product Order to Newest first in Store > Settings > Products. Products you import then appear at the front.
Why did a product move when sorting by price?
The price sort uses the product's cheapest in-stock offer. When offer prices or stock change, the product moves to match.
