Amazon OneLink and FreshStore: how they work together

Amazon OneLink sends shoppers from other countries to their own Amazon store when they click a link to Amazon.com, and credits the sale to you. You can use it with FreshStore. It works alongside your store's own country localisation, but it does not replace the tracking IDs for each country.

What OneLink does

OneLink is part of the US Amazon Associates programme (Amazon.com). You set it up in Amazon Associates Central from the OneLink page in the Tools menu.

  • When a shopper outside the US clicks an Amazon.com link that has your US tracking ID, Amazon sends them to their local Amazon store. The sale is credited to you in that country's programme.
  • Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy and Spain: your one US store ID earns in all six. Tick each country on the OneLink page. You do not need a new account.
  • Japan, Singapore, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Poland, Sweden and Australia: you open a separate Associates account in each country, then link it to your US account in Account Settings.
  • Shoppers from nearby countries go to the nearest supported store. For example, a shopper in Ireland goes to Amazon.co.uk.
  • Each tracking ID has a redirect preference: Close match (the default), Exact match, or Do not redirect. With Close match, a shopper can land on a similar product or a search page if the exact product is not sold in their country.
  • Earnings use the commission rates of the country where the shopper buys. They show in your consolidated earnings summary and in the Geo-redirected Traffic report.

Amazon no longer uses a OneLink script, so there is nothing to add to your store. Do not paste an old OneLink script into your custom scripts.

The important limit: OneLink only changes links that go to Amazon.com. It does not change a link that already goes to Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de or any other country store.

How OneLink fits with FreshStore

Your store finds each visitor's country and sends them straight to their own Amazon store. This is Auto Country Localisation. It decides which link a visitor gets:

  • The visitor's country is in your Enabled Countries: the buy button goes straight to that country's Amazon store, for example Amazon.co.uk. OneLink never sees this click. The link uses the tracking ID in that country's field in your Amazon Settings. If the field is empty, the link uses the FreshStore tracking ID, and you do not earn from that click.
  • The visitor's country is not in your Enabled Countries: the visitor gets your Default Country. If that is the United States, the buy button goes to Amazon.com with your US tracking ID, and OneLink can send the shopper to their own Amazon store.

Which setup to choose

Option 1: you have a tracking ID for each country (recommended)

Add each country's tracking ID in Store > Settings > Amazon Settings. See How to add Amazon Affiliate tags for different locales. Keep OneLink on in Amazon too. It catches visitors from the countries you have not enabled.

This gives shoppers the best experience: the exact product, in their own store, at their local price.

Option 2: you only have your US tracking ID, with OneLink

Send every click to Amazon.com, so that OneLink handles every visitor from outside the US:

  1. Go to Store > Settings > Store.
  2. In Main Settings, set Default Country to United States.
  3. In Front End, remove every country from Enabled Countries except United States.
  4. Click Save Changes.
  5. Do the same in each of your stores.

Now every visitor sees your US offers, and every buy button goes to Amazon.com with your US tracking ID. Visitors from other countries see US prices, and OneLink may send them to a similar product or a search page when the exact product is not sold in their country.

When you get a tracking ID for another country, add it in Amazon Settings, then add that country back to Enabled Countries.

Do not put your US tracking ID in another country's field. An Amazon tracking ID only earns in the programme it belongs to. FreshStore checks the ending for each country: the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy and Spain end in -21, so the form refuses a US ID that ends in -20 there. Canada IDs also end in -20, so the form accepts a US ID in the Canada field. Only add a Canada tracking ID that Amazon gave you for Canada. If you do not have one, remove Canada from Enabled Countries so that Canadian visitors go through Amazon.com and OneLink.

How to check it is working

  • Your store's links: open a product on your store and check the buy button link. With Option 2, it goes to amazon.com and contains tag= followed by your US tracking ID. See How to check your store affiliate links.
  • Where shoppers will land: on the OneLink page in Amazon Associates Central, use Check Matching Products. Paste a US product link to see where shoppers from each country go.
  • Your earnings: in Amazon Associates Central, open the consolidated earnings summary and the Geo-redirected Traffic report. New clicks can take a day or more to show.

Common questions

Does FreshStore support OneLink?

Yes. There is nothing to install. OneLink works on any Amazon.com link from your store that has your US tracking ID.

Does OneLink mean I only need one tracking ID?

Only if every click goes to Amazon.com (Option 2). In a store with other countries enabled, each enabled country needs its own tracking ID, because those links go straight to that country's Amazon store.

Can you fill in the Amazon OneLink forms for me?

No. Your Amazon Associates account is yours, and only you can sign in to it and accept Amazon's terms. We can check your store's links once you have set it up.

I joined Amazon UK first, not Amazon US. Can I use OneLink?

OneLink starts from a US Amazon Associates account. If you only have a UK account, add your UK tracking ID and keep your store focused on the United Kingdom, or join the US programme as well.
