How to create an Amazon Tracking ID

An Amazon Tracking ID (also called an "Amazon Tag" or "Associate Tag") is a unique identifier that tracks sales back to your affiliate account. Without it, you won't earn commissions when visitors buy products through your store.

We recommend creating a separate tracking ID for each of your stores. This makes it easy to see which stores are generating sales in your Amazon reports.

Before You Start

You need an active Amazon Associates account before you can create tracking IDs. If you haven't opened one yet:

Step-by-Step: Creating a Tracking ID

1. Log in to Amazon Associates

Go to the Amazon Associates website for your country and log in. For the USA programme:

2. Go to Manage Tracking IDs

Once logged in, look for Account Settings in the top navigation bar. From the dropdown, select Manage Your Tracking IDs.

3. Create a new tracking ID

On the Tracking IDs page, you will see any tracking IDs you have already created. To add a new one, click the "Add Tracking ID" button.

4. Choose a name for your tracking ID

Pick a name that matches your store so you can easily identify it later. For example, if your store is about coffee, you might use something like "coffeestore" or "bestcoffee".

Amazon will add a suffix (like "-20") to your tracking ID automatically.

5. Confirm and save

Click the button to create your tracking ID. It will appear in your list of tracking IDs immediately.

Adding Your Tracking ID to FreshStore

Once you have your tracking ID, add it to your store so your affiliate links earn commissions:

  1. Log in to your store dashboard
  2. Go to Store > Settings > Affiliate Settings
  3. Find the Amazon section
  4. Paste your tracking ID into the field
  5. Click Save

This is one of the most important steps when setting up your store. If your tracking ID is missing or incorrect, you will not earn commissions on any Amazon sales from your store.

Tracking IDs for Different Countries

Amazon requires a separate affiliate account for each country (e.g. amazon.com, amazon.co.uk, amazon.de). Each account has its own tracking IDs.

If you are targeting multiple countries, you will need to add the relevant tracking ID for each locale in your FreshStore settings.
