Store Search - Feature Guide
Every store has a search box, so visitors can type what they want and go straight to it. You choose what the search looks at, and how it matches the words your visitors type.
Where to find it
In your store admin, go to Store > Settings > Search. Change what you want and click Save.
What shows in search results
Turn each section on or off: Include products, Include articles, Include categories, Include brands and Include pages. Products, articles, categories and brands are on for every new store. Pages (about, contact and so on) are off.
What search looks at
Search always looks at each title. For each section, you can tick the other fields it should match on as well:
| Section | Fields you can add | On to start with |
| Products | Summary, Content, Product codes (UPC, EAN, ISBN, MPN), Meta keywords | All four |
| Articles | Subtitle, Content, Meta keywords | Meta keywords |
| Categories | Subtitle, Content (top and bottom), Meta keywords | Meta keywords |
| Brands | Subtitle, Content, Meta keywords | Meta keywords |
| Pages | Subtitle, Content, Meta keywords | Meta keywords |
Results with the search words in their title always come first, so the closest matches sit at the top.
TIP: Meta keywords are the easiest way to catch searches that don't fit in a title. If visitors search for "2026" or a nickname for a product, add that word to the Meta keywords of the products and articles it belongs to. The search will find them, and your titles can stay as they are.
How words are matched
The Match setting chooses how strict the search is:
-
All words, in any order
Every word has to appear somewhere in the fields above, but not in any set order. A search for "gas grill 2026" finds a product called "2026 Gas BBQ Grill". This is the setting every store starts with, and it suits most stores.
-
The exact phrase
The search only finds results containing the words exactly as typed. A search for "gas grill" does not find "Gas BBQ Grill". Use this if your visitors get too many loose results.
Search behaviour
-
Minimum query length
Searches shorter than this are ignored. The default is 2 characters.
-
Results per section
How many articles, categories, brands and pages show for each search. Products have their own pages of results, so this number does not limit them.
See what your visitors search for
Go to Store > Analytics > Searches to see every search made on your store and how many results each one found. Searches that found nothing are the ones to look at first. Each one is something a visitor wanted and could not find. Add the word to the right Meta keywords, or add a product for it.
Questions and Troubleshooting
I added a word to my Meta keywords, but search still does not find it.
Check that Meta keywords is ticked for that section in Store > Settings > Search, and that the product or article is enabled. Products also need at least one offer to show in search results.
Search finds too many results.
Untick Content for the section that is too busy, as long content often mentions many words in passing. Or switch Match to The exact phrase.
Can I hide articles or brands from search completely?
Yes. Turn off that section under What shows in search results.
