How to add a custom domain
Your FreshStore account includes free-to-use Vanity Domains, but you can also add your own Custom Domains.
Did you register your domain through FreshStore? Then it is already in your account and this page is not a step you need. Open Domains to find it, then choose it when you create a store, or use Change Domain on a store you already have. If you add it here you will be told the domain is already in your account, because it is.
Adding a Custom Domain
This page is for a domain you registered somewhere else, such as GoDaddy, NameCheap or Cloudflare.
Log in to your FreshStore account and go to Domains > Add Domain, or go to this link:
Choose A domain I own, enter only the domain (for example, mydomain.com), then click Add Domain.
Changing Your Name Servers
Once you have added your custom domain, you can then change your domain name servers to the ones below:
- ns1.freshstore.app
- ns2.freshstore.app
You can change your nameservers by logging into your Domain Name Registrar (i.e. the place you bought your domain, like GoDaddy or NameCheap).
The process can differ slightly. Look for a guide or article at your registrar, or contact their support team.
Once you have changed the nameservers, you can check when it has been updated by going to your domain list and clicking Manage for that domain. It usually takes less than 30 minutes to update but can sometimes take up to 24 hours.
After you have added your Custom Domain, remember to create a store using it or change the domain on your existing store to use your domain.
Alternative Options
You will change your domain's nameservers when you add it to FreshStore. This might impact other services you have on the domain name, like emails or other websites.
Please also see our guide for Adding Custom Subdomains to Your Account if you do not want to change your nameservers.
Frequently Asked Questions
I registered my domain with FreshStore and it says the domain is already in my account
That message is correct and nothing is wrong. Registering a domain through us adds it to your account at the same time, so there is nothing left to add on this page. Your domain is in Domains, ready to use on a store.
Why does my custom domain not work?
Here are some common issues:
- Make sure your nameservers are set exactly as above
- Please wait while your nameservers change. This can take from 30 minutes to a few hours.
- Make sure you have changed your existing store to use your domain (or create a new store using it)
- Do not use Cloudflare or other similar services for your domain
- Clear your local browser cache
If you have any further problems please contact support.
How do I change the nameservers of my domain name?
This can vary slightly depending on where you registered your domain name. Please check your domain name registrar (e.g. NameCheap, GoDaddy) for instructions.
How long does it take to change the nameservers?
It should take less than 30 minutes but could take up to 24 hours. They might update faster for different parts of the world.
How can I make the nameservers propagate faster?
You can try clearing the DNS cache in these places, which may help in decreasing the time it takes for the nameservers to change:
https://cachecheck.opendns.com/
https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/cache
Why are there only two nameservers?
Other services may have more nameservers, but only two are needed for FreshStore.
How do I remove a custom domain from my account?
Go to Domains in your account, find the domain, click Manage, and select the option to remove it. This will disconnect the domain from any store using it. See the Domain Names Feature Guide for more details.
