How to share your products on Social Media

Every product page in your store has share buttons, so you can post any product to Facebook, X, Pinterest and more in a couple of clicks. This guide shows you how to use them, the best way to share to a Facebook Page or Group, and how to make your posts look good.

Where to find the share buttons

Open any product page on your live store and look for the Share row. It has a button for each of these:

  • Facebook
  • X
  • Reddit
  • Pinterest: pins the product image with a link back to your store
  • WhatsApp
  • Email: opens a new email with the product link in it

Your articles have share buttons too, so you can share a buying guide or a review the same way.

How to share a product

1. Open the product page

Go to your live store and open the product you want to share.

2. Click a share button

Click the button for the place you want to post. A new window opens with the product's picture, title and link already filled in.

3. Add a few words and post

Say why you like the product or who it suits. A post with your own words gets more clicks than a link on its own. Then click Post.

How to share to a Facebook Page or Group

The Facebook button works well for sharing to your own profile. To share to a Page or a Group, paste the link into a new post instead:

  1. Open the product page and copy the link from your browser's address bar.
  2. Go to your Facebook Page or Group and start a new post.
  3. Paste the link. Facebook adds the product picture and title by itself.
  4. Add a few words and click Post.

Why not use the share button? On a computer, Facebook's own share window sometimes keeps loading and never posts when you choose a Page or a Group. This is a fault on Facebook's side, and other websites have it too. Your store is fine. Pasting the link works, and the share button usually works on a phone.

Before you post in a Group, read its rules. Many Groups only allow links on certain days, or not at all. Engaging with communities shows how to take part in a way that gets you welcomed back.

Make your posts look good

When you share a product, the picture in the post is the product's image. When you share your homepage or an article, the picture is your social image, which you can change. See How to change the social image of your store.

If Facebook shows an old picture or title, paste your link into the Facebook Sharing Debugger and click Scrape Again. Facebook then reads your page fresh.

Tips

  • Share your store's link, not the retailer's link. Amazon does not allow its affiliate links in emails or private messages. A link to your store page is fine anywhere, and your tracking IDs are added when the visitor clicks through to buy.
  • Say that you earn. When you share a product you earn from, mention it in the post. See How to comply with affiliate disclosure laws.
  • Instagram and TikTok don't make links in posts clickable. Put your store link in your profile, and point people to it in your posts.
  • Pinterest suits products well. How to add your store products to Pinterest shows faster ways to pin lots of products.
  • Let your store post for you. Your store has RSS feeds that an automation tool can turn into posts by itself. See Automating with RSS feeds.

Questions and Troubleshooting

The Facebook share window keeps loading and never posts. What should I do?

This happens on a computer when you choose a Page or a Group. Copy the product link from your browser's address bar and paste it into a new post instead, as shown above. You can also use the share button on your phone.

My post shows the wrong picture or an old title.

Facebook keeps a copy of each link it has seen. Paste your link into the Facebook Sharing Debugger and click Scrape Again, then share it again.
