About You - Feature Guide

About You is where you tell your store who is behind it: your name, your photo and one line about you. Your store shows them beside your articles, and the Podium template puts them at the top of your homepage and on your picks.

Go to Design > About You in your store admin.

The settings

  • Your name

Shown as the author of your articles, and as "Chosen by" on Podium. Up to 60 characters. Click Suggest a random name if you would rather not use your own name.

  • Your photo

A square photo of you works best. It is cropped to a circle, and the file must be under 2MB. Until you add one, your store shows a drawn face made from your name. The page shows it under Your face today, so you see what your visitors see.

  • One line about you

Optional, up to 120 characters. For example: "Yoga teacher in Leeds. I use everything I list." Podium shows it under your name at the top of your homepage. It is written by you, never by us.

Click Save. Your store shows the change shortly.

Your name here is the same field as Default Author at Store > Settings > Articles. Change it in either place and both update.

Where your name and photo appear

  • Article bylines, on every template. Your name shows as the author. On Emporium, Bounty, Compass, Podium and Vista a face shows beside it: your photo, or the drawn face until you add one. On Crystal, the face shows only once you upload a photo.
  • Podium's homepage. Your photo, name and one line open the homepage, beside a short note on how you earn.
  • Podium's picks. Your face and name sit on your picks.

Bylines show only when Show Article Meta is on at Store > Settings > Articles.

The face beside a byline is your photo only when the article's author matches Your name. Articles with a different author get a drawn face made from that author's name.

About You and Podium

Podium is built around a real person, so About You matters most there. Before you switch to Podium, add your photo and your one line. The Podium readiness check on Design > Templates reminds you, with an Add your photo button. See the Templates guide for more on Podium.

On Podium you can also change these at Design > Store Options, on the Layout tab:

  • Your Name And Face At The Top: open your homepage with your face, your name and your one line.
  • Sign Your Picks: put your initials under the line you wrote for each pick.

Questions and Troubleshooting

Do I have to use my real name?

No. Use a pen name, a first name, or click Suggest a random name. Your account details are never shown on your store.

My one line did not save.

Your store may still be finishing an update. The message tells you if so. Try again in a few minutes.

My photo is not showing on my Crystal articles.

Check that the article author matches Your name exactly. Articles written under another author name show a drawn face instead.
