Why can't I add a store user with an email address I deleted before?

When you delete a user from your store, their account is kept in a "Deleted" state rather than being removed completely. Because the email address still belongs to that deleted account, creating a new user with the same email fails.

How to fix it

  1. Turn on Advanced Mode for your dashboard (see the related guide below).
  2. Go to Users > Accounts in your store dashboard and open the Deleted tab.
  3. Find the old user and either Restore them (to bring the account back) or Delete Permanently (to free up the email address).
  4. If you deleted permanently, you can now create the new user with that email as normal.

Permanent deletion cannot be undone. If the old account has history you want to keep, restore it instead of deleting it permanently.
