Site Import - Feature Guide
Already have a website somewhere else? With Site Import, our team moves it into FreshStore for you, free. Your articles and pages come across with their original dates, your categories are rebuilt, and your old links keep working once your domain points here.
It works with WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Blogger and most other sites.
How to ask for an import
- Log in to your account and go to Build > Import a site, or open https://my.freshstore.com/import-a-site
- Click Import a site.
- Enter the full address of your site, for example https://example.com.
- Under Where should it go? choose A new site, or One of my sites and pick the site.
- On WordPress, you can also add an export file. In WordPress go to Tools > Export > All content, then upload the file here (up to 19 MB). It helps us bring across your drafts and SEO details. It is optional.
- Tick I own this site, or have the right to import it.
- Click Send request.
You can follow your request on the same page.
Tell us what you want (optional)
The form asks four short questions. Leave any of them blank. We follow your answers where we can.
- Anything to leave out? For example a section, old posts, or pages you no longer need.
- Anything to keep exactly as it is? For example your menu, page names, or how posts are grouped.
- Which design would you like? Leave it on Let us choose and we pick the template that suits your site. Or pick one of the six yourself. You can change it later in your site admin.
- Anything else? Anything else we should know.
What happens next
- We check your request. Our team reads every request first. You get an email when we approve it, or the reason if we cannot.
- We do the import. Imports run one at a time, so yours may wait for its turn. You do not need to do anything, and your old site stays as it is.
- We check the result. Your articles wait as drafts while our team looks over the new site. Nothing goes live before that.
- You get an email when it is ready. Your content is then live on the new site, with the original dates kept.
What comes across
- Articles, with their original publish dates, SEO titles and descriptions, featured images and categories.
- Pages, such as About and Contact.
- Categories, rebuilt as article categories.
- Images, copied into your new site, so nothing loads from your old host.
- Your homepage title and description.
- A menu with your main categories, and your legal and about pages in the footer.
- Redirects from every old address to its new page.
We copy your text exactly as you wrote it, with no rewriting or translation.
Product links. If your site recommends products from Amazon, eBay, Walmart, Etsy or AliExpress, those products are added to your new site, and your Amazon tag goes on your Amazon links.
Shops. If you sell your own products today, we rebuild your shop's categories and fill them with products from Amazon and the other merchants, so the site earns commissions. Your own products are left on your old shop.
Internal links
When your import goes live, your site adds links between your articles, the same as it does for any FreshStore site. This uses AI Chips. Setting up a new site for your import also uses AI Chips, like any new site. We do the import itself for free.
Point your domain at your new site
Your redirects work as soon as your old domain points to your new site. Old links then lead to the right new pages, for visitors and for search engines.
Follow How to add a custom domain.
The ready email has a Connect your domain button that takes you to the right place.
Good to know
- A new site uses one of the sites on your plan. If your plan is full, free a site first, or choose One of my sites.
- Importing into One of my sites adds the content next to what is there. Nothing on your site is replaced.
- Got more than one site? Send them all, one request each.
- Reply to the ready email if anything looks wrong, and we will fix it.
