Country Pages: What Your Shoppers See

With Country pages on, your site gives each country it sells in its own set of pages: yourstore.com/uk/ for the United Kingdom, yourstore.com/ca/ for Canada, and so on. Every country page shows that country's prices, stock and Buy links, and search engines can rank it for shoppers in that country. This guide is what a shopper sees on a site with Country pages switched on. For a site with it off, see the Auto Country Localisation guide.

How a shopper gets to a country page

A shopper reaches a country page in one of three ways:

  • From a search engine. Each country page is listed in your sitemap with a hreflang tag, so Google can show the UK page to a UK searcher and the main page to everyone else.
  • From the offer bar. A shopper who opens a main page from a country with its own pages sees a short bar at the top: "Shopping from the United Kingdom? See UK prices." Nothing moves them without a click.
  • From the Shop from menu. The header has a Shop from menu listing every country page. A shopper can switch at any time, and the choice is remembered.

Your main pages do not change. A shopper who ignores the bar sees your site exactly as before.

What a country page shows

  • Prices and stock for that country. A UK page shows the price Amazon.co.uk charges, in pounds, with that offer's stock. Prices are not converted from another country's figure.
  • Buy links to that country's marketplace. Every Buy button on a UK page goes to Amazon.co.uk, eBay.co.uk and so on, and the click is credited to your affiliate tag for that country.
  • The same content. For countries in your site's language, every product, category and article page is there with the same text as your main pages, plus the country and currency in the page title.
  • A note on products not sold there. A product with no offer for that country still has a page, marked so search engines skip it. It says the product is not sold on that marketplace, links to it on your main site, and shows similar products the shopper can buy.

Carts on a site with Country pages

The cart stays on your main pages. A shopper who adds products from a UK page and a US page sees both carts stacked on the cart page, each with its own checkout link, so nothing is lost when they change country.

Countries in another language

Countries in your site's own language go live free once they have ten products. A country in another language (a German page on an English site, say) is translated from your own content using your AI chips, and only when you turn that country on from the Countries screen. See the Countries & Languages guide for the screen and its settings.

Turning it off

In the site admin, go to Settings > Countries and switch off Country pages at the top of the screen. Every country page then sends shoppers to the same page on your main site, and the site goes back to how it was before.

Troubleshooting

"A UK shopper saw US prices": ask which page they were on. A main page always shows your Default Country's prices, and that is expected. The UK prices are on the /uk/ pages, which the offer bar and the Shop from menu point to.

"The Buy button says the product is not sold in that country": that product has no offer on that country's marketplace yet. Add one on the product's Offers tab in the site admin, or leave it: the page still shows similar products and links to your main site.

"A country page is live but my tag is not on it": each country pays through your affiliate tag for that country. The Countries screen in the site admin flags any live country still using the FreshStore tag, with a link to the tag field.
