Why does my store show clicks but no visitors?

Visitors, visits and affiliate clicks all come from the same tracking script on your storefront. Your store does not count clicks in one way and visitors in another, so a store with real clicks has real visitors behind them.

When the two numbers look like they disagree, it is nearly always one of the reasons below.

1. The chart and the totals cover different date ranges

This is the most common cause.

On your store Dashboard, the Store Traffic chart shows a rolling window and starts on 1 Week. The Unique Visitors and Affiliate Clicks tiles next to it count everything your store has ever recorded.

So a store that had traffic a few months ago and a quiet week now will show a click total beside an empty chart. Nothing is broken or missing.

To check: use the filter on the Store Traffic chart to switch to 1 Month, 3 Months, 6 Months or 1 Year. For the full list, go to Store > Analytics > Visitors in your store admin.

2. Your own visits are not counted in the browser you log in with

Once you log in to your store admin, that browser is marked as the owner and the tracking script stops running in it. Browsing your own store from there will never add a visitor, a visit or a click. The mark stays in that browser after you log out.

The mark is stored in the browser, so it does not travel to your other devices. If you open your store on your phone, in a second browser, or in a private window where you have never signed in, those visits are counted like any other visitor. Your storefront pages are cached and served the same way to everyone, so the browser mark is the only signal that separates you from a shopper.

To keep your own visits out of the reports, log in to the store admin once in every browser you use to look at your store. To see your store the way a visitor sees it, use a private or incognito window and accept that the visit is counted.

3. A very recent visit has not synced yet

Your visitor reports refresh about every ten minutes while you are using your store admin. A visit from the last few minutes may not have arrived yet. Reload the Dashboard shortly afterwards.

4. Some visitors block tracking

Ad blockers and strict privacy settings stop the tracking script from loading. Those visitors are invisible to your reports.

This affects visits and clicks equally, because both are recorded by the same script. It means your real traffic is a little higher than the reports show, and it cannot make clicks appear without visitors.

Where each number lives

  • Unique Visitors and Affiliate Clicks: the tiles on your store Dashboard, counted for the whole life of the store.
  • Store Traffic chart and Recent Visitors: your store Dashboard, for the selected period.
  • Full visitor and traffic reports: Store > Analytics.
  • Every affiliate click, with the product and the merchant: Sales > Affiliate Clicks.

Still does not add up?

If Unique Visitors stays at zero while Affiliate Clicks is above zero, contact support with your store address and we will look at the underlying data for you.
