What are the UPC, EAN, ISBN and MPN fields on a product?
When you edit a product you will see fields for UPC, EAN, ISBN, and MPN. These are optional product identifiers. You do not have to fill them in, but adding them helps your store in two ways.
What each one is
- UPC (Universal Product Code): the barcode number used mainly in the USA and Canada.
- EAN (European Article Number): the international barcode standard used outside North America.
- ISBN (International Standard Book Number): the identifier used for books.
- MPN (Manufacturer Part Number): the part number the manufacturer gives a product.
Do you need to add them?
No, it is not necessary. These fields are populated when they are imported from Amazon, eBay, etc. if the data is available.
Where to find them
You will usually find these numbers on the product's packaging, or on the merchant's product page (for example the "Product Information" section of an Amazon listing).
What FreshStore does with them
- Finds offers automatically. FreshStore uses these identifiers to match your product to offers from merchants like Amazon, eBay, and Walmart.
- Improves your Google Shopping feed. They are included in your product feed as the GTIN and MPN, which helps Google match your products correctly.
None of these fields are required. Add the ones you have, and leave the rest blank.
