How to change your store favicon

A favicon is the small icon that appears in browser tabs, bookmarks, search results and on a phone's home screen. FreshStore calls it your Store Icon. Setting your own makes your store look more professional and helps visitors find your tab.

How to Change Your Favicon

1. Go to Design > Store Icon in your store admin.
2. Upload your icon to Store Icon - PNG file format. Phones and some older browsers use this one.
3. If you have an SVG version, upload it to Store Icon - SVG file format too. Modern browsers use it.
4. Click Save Icons.

Your store makes all the smaller sizes that browsers and phones need from your file.

Favicon Specifications

• Size: at least 512 x 512 pixels.
• Shape: square.
• Format: PNG, and SVG if you have one. A transparent background works best.
• Keep it simple. Favicons show very small. A simple icon or a single letter works much better than a detailed logo.

If you don't upload one

Each of the six templates has its own default icon. Crystal's is a faceted gem. If you have not uploaded an icon, your store shows your template's default, and it changes with your template if you switch.

Your own icon always wins over the default, on every template. It comes with you when you switch template.

Tips for a Good Favicon

• Use your logo's icon. If your logo has a simple icon or symbol, use that as your favicon for consistent branding.
• Use a single letter. The first letter of your store name in a bold font on a coloured background works well.
• Test it. After uploading, open your store in a browser and check that the favicon looks clear in the tab.
• Clear your cache. Browsers hold on to favicons. If you don't see the new one straight away, clear your browser cache or try a private window.
