Introduction to Social Media Traffic

Building a strong social media presence is one of the most cost-effective ways to drive traffic to your store.

Why your Social Profiles matter

Social networks are arguably the biggest part of the internet and still growing. Creating social profiles lets you tap into an endless stream of traffic.

When potential customers discover you on platforms they already trust, they're more likely to click through and explore your store. Having strong social profiles boosts your traffic and conversions.

Choosing the Right Platforms for Your Niche

Not every social network fits every store niche.

For visual products like home dΓ©cor or fashion, platforms such as Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok perform best.

More technical niches often perform better on LinkedIn and X (previously Twitter), where knowledge and deeper discussions are more appreciated.

Think about where your target audience naturally spends time; DIY hobbyists might be on Facebook Groups and Pinterest, while gaming enthusiasts spend time on YouTube.

Focus your energy on two to three platforms where you can consistently publish quality content rather than spreading yourself too thin.

Your stores social features

Your store includes social sharing buttons on product pages and articles out of the box. This allows your visitors to share your posts on those platforms easily.

Your store also has built in Open Graph data that adds the correct image, title, and description when your pages are shared.

You can customize the image shown (i.e. the Social Image). See our guide to Changing your social images.

Building your following

This same advice applies to any social media profile you create.

Focus more on sharing good content and advice rather than just posting links to your store. Monitor the profiles and engage with any comments or mentions.

Repost and engage on other content that is related to your niche. Don't be afraid to share content even if you think they might be a competitor - this engagement helps you to build followers and maybe partnerships.

Use any feature in the social network that can encourage conversation and engagement. For example, post polls, memes, stickers, quizzes, stories or even live Q&A sessions.
